Göttingen, August 27, 2026 – What does applied photonics research at IFNANO look like? As part of the Measurement Valley Discovery Tour, the Institute for Nanophotonics Göttingen e.V. (IFNANO) opened its doors. Members of Measurement Valley and other guests were given insights into the institute’s research and had the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with the researchers on site.

Insights into Research

The institute’s director, apl. Prof. Dr. A. Egner, welcomed the guests and first introduced IFNANO, its strategic focus, and its main areas of research. The tour then continued to the laboratories of the three departments: Optical Nanoscopy, Short Wavelengths, and Photonic Sensing.

There, visitors had the opportunity to learn more about IFNANO’s diverse fields of research – ranging from methods that overcome the resolution limits of conventional light microscopy, to the generation, characterization, and application of extremely short-wavelength radiation, as well as current projects in photonic sensing.

The laboratory tours also demonstrated the wide range of applications for photonic technologies – for example, in medical technology, environmental analysis, and industrial applications.

Exchange in a Relaxed Atmosphere

Following the laboratory tours, the exchange continued in the best summer weather over a barbecue. There was plenty of opportunity to discuss questions raised during the tours in greater depth, exchange views on current developments, and establish new contacts within the Göttingen metrology community.

Networking within Measurement Valley

The Discovery Tour is an event series organized by Measurement Valley that regularly visits member companies and institutes within the network. For IFNANO, the afternoon provided an excellent opportunity to present its research to a technically interested audience and to further strengthen exchange and collaboration within the region.

IFNANO would like to thank all guests for their interest and the lively exchange and looks forward to further joint events with Measurement Valley.
