In Memoriam: Prof. Dr. Philippe Bastiaens (1963–2025)
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Prof. Dr. Philippe Bastiaens on May 15, 2025.
Born in 1963 in Den Helder, the Netherlands, Philippe Bastiaens studied biochemistry at Wageningen University and in the United States. Following his PhD in 1992, he held research positions at leading institutions in Wageningen, Göttingen, London, and Heidelberg. Since 2006, he had served as Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund.
Prof. Bastiaens had been a member of our Scientific Advisory Board since 2014. With his analytical brilliance, passion for interdisciplinary research, and forward-looking perspective, he made a lasting impact on our work. We will remember him as an outstanding scientist and a valued advisor and colleague.
